Occasional Easy to Fix No Cost 5-30 Minutes
← Back to Overview
Problem: The Automower won't connect to the Automower Connect app, the Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping, or the mower won't pair. The app status shows "Not connected" or "Offline".

Problem Description

The Automower won't connect to the Automower Connect app, the Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping, or the mower won't pair. The app status shows "Not connected" or "Offline". This prevents remote control and monitoring of the mower and can have various causes.

Affected Models: All models with Connect function (X models, NERA series)

Possible Causes

  1. Wi-Fi signal too weak (charging station too far from router) – Most common cause
  2. Bluetooth out of range – Too far away for initial pairing
  3. Automower Connect module defective – Hardware problem
  4. Firmware outdated – Old software causes connection problems
  5. Router settings block connection – Firewall or MAC filter
  6. Cellular reception too weak (for Cellular models) – For 4G models

Step-by-Step Solutions

Solution 1: Optimize Wi-Fi Connection

Time Required: 10-15 minutes

  1. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength at the charging station with your smartphone
  2. If weak: Install a Wi-Fi repeater between router and charging station
  3. Make sure your router broadcasts on 2.4 GHz (not only 5 GHz!)
  4. Remove the Wi-Fi network from the mower and set it up again:
    • App → More → Settings → Connection
    • "Remove Wi-Fi network"
    • Reconnect and enter password
Important: The Automower supports ONLY 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, NOT 5 GHz! Many modern routers only broadcast on 5 GHz. Enable 2.4 GHz in your router settings or use a separate 2.4 GHz access point.
Tip for Strong Wi-Fi: Place a weatherproof Wi-Fi repeater in the garage or a garden shed between router and charging station. Look for IP44 or higher for outdoor areas.

Solution 2: Re-pair Bluetooth

Time Required: 5 minutes

  1. Stand with your smartphone directly next to the mower (max. 5 meters)
  2. Open the Automower Connect app
  3. Turn on the mower
  4. Go to "More""Add mower"
  5. Follow the instructions for Bluetooth pairing
  6. Enter the PIN code when prompted
Bluetooth vs. Wi-Fi: Bluetooth is only used for initial pairing and local settings. Remote control and monitoring require a Wi-Fi or Cellular connection.

Solution 3: Update Firmware

Time Required: 10-20 minutes

  1. Connect the mower via Bluetooth
  2. Open app → MoreSettings
  3. Check the firmware version under "About"
  4. If update available: Install it
  5. During update: DO NOT move or turn off the mower
  6. After update: Reconnection may be necessary
Caution: Never interrupt a running firmware update! This can render the mower unusable. Make sure the battery is at least 50% charged before starting an update.

Solution 4: Check Cellular Connection (for Cellular models)

Time Required: 5 minutes

  1. Check if the SIM card is correctly inserted
  2. Check the cellular reception at the charging station
  3. For poor reception: Consider an external antenna
  4. Check if data volume is available
Cellular Models: Models with 4G/LTE module don't need a Wi-Fi connection. They use the cellular network for communication. Data usage is approximately 1-2 MB per month.

When Should You Consult a Professional?

If the Connect module is defective, it must be replaced by a specialist. For persistent connection problems despite good signal strength, there may be a hardware defect. We offer professional diagnosis and repair of the Connect module.

Preventive Measures

  • Plan for Wi-Fi repeater from the start – Prevents connection problems
  • Update firmware regularly – Fixes known bugs
  • Router settings not too restrictive – Check MAC filter and firewall
  • Use Bluetooth only for setup – Then switch to Wi-Fi
  • For Cellular: Monitor data volume – Monthly check
  • Keep 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi enabled – Don't disable
Pro Tip: Test the Wi-Fi strength at the charging station by going there with your smartphone and checking the signal strength. If you have less than 2 bars, you definitely need a repeater. Most connection problems are simply due to weak Wi-Fi.
