Problem: The Automower continues mowing despite rain or should work in rain, although this is not ideal for the lawn. Conversely: The mower should mow in rain but doesn't. Many users are unsure whether and how the mower should work in rain.

Problem Description

The Automower continues mowing despite rain or should work in rain, although this is not ideal for the lawn. Conversely: The mower should mow in rain but doesn't. The rain sensor or settings need to be adjusted. Many users are unsure whether and how the mower should work in rain.

Affected Models: All models

Important to Know: Husqvarna Automowers CAN mow in rain, but it's NOT recommended for optimal lawn quality! Wet grass leads to clogged cutting system and can leave tire tracks in the lawn.

Possible Causes

  1. Rain sensor deactivated (or activated, depending on desire) – Wrong setting
  2. Weather timer incorrectly configured – Function not understood
  3. Rain sensor dirty or defective – Doesn't work reliably
  4. User doesn't know how it works – Uncertainty with settings

Step-by-Step Solutions

Solution 1: Activate Rain Sensor (To NOT mow in rain)

Time Required: 3 minutes

  1. Open the Automower Connect app
  2. Go to: More → Settings → Schedule
  3. Activate "Weather Timer"
  4. Or on older models directly on the display:
    • Menu → Settings → Weather Timer
  5. The mower pauses automatically when raining
How the Weather Timer Works: The mower has a rain sensor that detects water. When the Weather Timer is activated, the mower returns to the charging station when it rains and waits until it's dry. The waiting time is typically 3-12 hours.

Solution 2: Allow Mowing in Rain (If mower should work in rain)

Time Required: 2 minutes

  1. In the app: Deactivate "Weather Timer"
  2. Or on the display: Weather Timer to "OFF"
  3. The mower works regardless of weather
But Consider the Disadvantages:
• Wet grass clogs the cutting system faster
• The lawn can get tire tracks (especially with very wet soil)
• More cleaning effort necessary
• With very wet lawn: Better let it pause
When Mowing in Rain Makes Sense: If you have a large lawn and it rains frequently, it can make sense to deactivate the Weather Timer. Otherwise the mower won't manage the area. For small gardens it's better to pause in rain.

Solution 3: Clean Rain Sensor

Time Required: 5 minutes

If the Weather Timer doesn't work reliably:

  1. Locate the rain sensor (usually on top of the housing)
  2. Clean it with a damp cloth
  3. Remove dirt, pollen, and deposits
  4. Dry it
  5. Test the function
Sensor Position: The rain sensor is a small metal plate on top of the mower. It measures conductivity - when water is on it, a signal is triggered.

When Should You Consult a Professional?

With a defective rain sensor, it must be replaced. However, this is not a critical problem - the mower can also be operated without a rain sensor (manual pausing in rain via the app). We offer sensor replacement for all models.

Preventive Measures

  • Decide on a strategy – With or without rain, based on your lawn size
  • Clean rain sensor every few weeks – Removes pollen and deposits
  • During thunderstorms: Manually drive mower to charging station – Lightning protection!
  • After heavy rain: Check cutting deck for dirt – Prevents clogging
  • Keep charging station dry – Improves sensor accuracy
Pro Tip: The best setting for most users is: Weather Timer ON. The lawn looks better, the cutting system stays cleaner, and you save cleaning work. Only with very large areas (over 1500 sqm) or frequent rain can it make sense to also mow in rain.
Thunderstorm Warning: During thunderstorms you should ALWAYS manually drive the mower to the charging station and disconnect the charging station from power. A lightning strike in the boundary wire can destroy the mower's electronics!
