Firmware Update Failed - Automower Won't Start
← Back to Overview
Problem Description
After a firmware update or a failed update attempt, the mower no longer starts properly, behaves strangely, or gets stuck in boot mode. The display may show error messages or remain dark. An interrupted update can lead to serious problems.
Affected Models: All models with update function
Possible Causes
- Update was interrupted (battery empty, connection lost) – Most common cause
- Battery too weak for update – At least 50% required
- Wrong firmware version installed – Incompatibility with model
- Software error after update – Bug in new firmware
- Motherboard damaged by faulty installation (very rare) – Hardware damage
Step-by-Step Solutions
Solution 1: Restart the Mower
Time Required: 2-3 minutes
- Press the STOP button
- Turn off the mower completely (ON/OFF button or jog wheel)
- Wait 30 seconds
- Turn the mower back on
- Enter the PIN code
- Check if normal operation is possible
Solution 2: Repeat Firmware Update
Time Required: 15-30 minutes
- Place the mower in the charging station and charge to at least 50%
- Keep smartphone/tablet within Bluetooth range throughout the entire update
- Open the Automower Connect app
- Connect via Bluetooth
- Go to: More → Settings → About → Firmware Update
- Start the update again
- DO NOT interrupt! (Can take 20-30 minutes)
- Don't move the mower during the update
- After successful update: Perform restart
Solution 3: Reset to Factory Settings
Time Required: 5-10 minutes
- In the app: More → Settings → General → Reset to factory settings
- Alternatively on the mower display (older models):
• Menu → Settings → General → Reset all user settings - Follow the confirmation dialog
- The mower will restart
- After restart: Reprogram schedule and settings
Will be deleted: Schedule, map objects, stay-out zones, work areas, Wi-Fi data
When Should You Consult a Professional?
If the mower still doesn't work after several restart attempts and factory reset, the motherboard may be damaged. This is a warranty case for newer devices. For older mowers, professional diagnosis is necessary. We offer repair service also for older models outside warranty.
Preventive Measures
- Firmware updates only with fully charged battery – At least 50%, better 80%
- During update: Don't move mower – Leave in charging station
- Don't close app during update – Maintain Bluetooth connection
- Ensure stable Bluetooth connection – Smartphone directly by mower
- No updates during thunderstorms – Avoid power outages
- Before important mowing: No updates – Better update afterwards
- Note settings before major updates – Take screenshot of schedule
