Problem: The Automower's display remains dark, shows illegible characters, doesn't respond to inputs, or flickers. On newer models with jog wheel, operation doesn't work properly.

Problem Description

The Automower's display remains dark, shows illegible characters, doesn't respond to inputs, or flickers. On newer models with jog wheel, operation doesn't work properly. This can severely limit operation since settings can no longer be made.

Affected Models: Mainly older models with display (305, 310, 315, 320, 420, 430X)

Possible Causes

  1. Moisture penetrated the display – Most common cause, especially with older models
  2. Display cable disconnected – Connection to motherboard interrupted
  3. Extreme temperatures damaged display – Too hot or too cold
  4. Motherboard defective – Electronics problem
  5. Display itself defective – LCD or LED damaged

Step-by-Step Solutions

Solution 1: Restart Mower and Dry

Time Required: 10-15 minutes (plus 24h drying time)

  1. Turn off the mower completely
  2. Remove the housing cover
  3. Let the mower dry for 24 hours in a dry, warm location
  4. Wipe the display with a dry cloth
  5. Check for water droplets under the display film
  6. Replace the housing
  7. Turn on the mower
Drying Tip: Do NOT place the opened mower in direct sunlight or on a heater. A warm, dry room (20-25°C) is ideal. You can also use a fan for gentle air circulation.

Solution 2: Check Display Connection (for Advanced Users)

Time Required: 20-30 minutes

ONLY if you're familiar with electronics! Improper opening can void warranty and cause further damage.
  1. Turn off the mower and remove the housing
  2. Locate the connection cable from display to motherboard
  3. Check if the connector is firmly seated
  4. Disconnect the connector carefully and reconnect (no force!)
  5. Watch the pins – they must not be bent
  6. Reassemble everything
  7. Test the display
Caution: The plug connections are very delicate! Never pull on the cable, always on the connector itself. Bent pins can often be carefully bent back with tweezers.

Solution 3: Replace Display Module (for Advanced Users)

Time Required: 30-60 minutes

Requires replacement display for your model! Make sure you order the correct display for your exact model. Displays are NOT universally interchangeable.
  1. Order the correct display for your model
  2. Turn off the mower, remove the housing
  3. Disconnect the display cable from the motherboard
  4. Remove the mounting screws of the display
  5. Carefully remove the old display
  6. Insert the new display
  7. Screw it tight and connect the cable
  8. Test before housing assembly
Tools Needed: Screwdriver (Phillips or Torx, depending on model), original replacement display for your model
Display Compatibility: Each Automower model uses a specific display. A 315 display doesn't fit a 310, for example. Check the exact model number before ordering!

When Should You Consult a Professional?

Display problems often require replacement of the complete display module. With water damage, the motherboard may also be affected. If you're not confident working with electronics, a workshop visit is advisable. For newer models: Check warranty! We offer professional display diagnosis and repair.

Preventive Measures

  • Protect mower in heavy rain – Let it run under cover
  • Check housing seals regularly – Inspect for cracks and hardening
  • Don't clean with pressure washer – Water penetrates display
  • Don't expose display to direct sun – Can damage LCD
  • During storage: Dry environment – Basement or garage, not outside
  • For newer models: Use app – Settings via Connect app instead of display
Pro Tip: For newer models with Connect function, you can make almost all settings via the Automower Connect app, even if the display is defective. This allows you to continue operating the mower while waiting for spare parts. Only the PIN code must be entered on the mower.
