Battery Temperature Out of Range - Too Hot/Cold

Seasonal (Summer/Winter) Easy to Fix No Cost Few Minutes + Waiting Time

Problem: The error message "Battery temperature outside limits", "Battery too hot" or "Battery too cold" appears. The mower refuses to work and stays in the charging station. This is a protection mechanism to preserve the battery.

Problem Description

The error message "Battery temperature outside limits", "Battery too hot" or "Battery too cold" appears. The mower refuses to work and stays in the charging station. This is a protection mechanism to preserve the battery and occurs especially during extreme weather conditions.

Affected Models: All models

Possible Causes

  1. Charging station in direct sunlight (summer) – Most common cause in heat
  2. Operation at too low temperatures (below 5°C) – Spring/autumn/winter
  3. Overheating from excessive load – Very tall grass or steep slopes
  4. Defective temperature sensor (rare) – Shows incorrect values
  5. Battery fundamentally defective – Age-related issue with older batteries

Step-by-Step Solutions

Solution 1: Shade Charging Station (For Summer Overheating)

Time Required: Varies by solution

  1. Move the charging station to a shadier location
  2. Or: Build a sun shade/canopy
  3. Ensure good ventilation (no closed housing!)
  4. Optimal temperature: 15-30°C
  5. In heat: Move mowing times to morning and evening hours
Caution: The charging station must NOT be completely enclosed. The battery needs air circulation for cooling. A roof is OK, but not a closed box!
Sun Shade Ideas: A simple wooden roof, sun umbrella, or placement under a tree/shrub can be sufficient. Important: The charging station must still receive GPS signal (for Connect models).

Solution 2: Adjust Operating Temperatures (In Winter/Spring)

Time Required: 2-3 minutes

  1. Stop operation at temperatures below 5°C
  2. Use Weather Timer or Smart Routines
  3. The mower starts automatically only at >5°C
  4. In the app: Settings → Schedule → Advanced
  5. Select "Weather Timer" and set minimum temperature
Operating Temperature Range: The Automower is designed for operation between 5°C and 45°C. Outside this range, it protects its battery by refusing to work. This is normal and not a malfunction!

Solution 3: Wait for Cooling/Warming

Time Required: 1-3 hours waiting time

  1. If battery too hot: Place mower in shade and let cool
  2. If battery too cold: Bring to warmer environment (>10°C)
  3. Don't charge immediately at extreme temperatures
  4. Wait 1-2 hours until temperature is in OK range
  5. Then continue normal operation
Patience Pays Off: The battery needs time to adjust to normal temperatures. Don't force anything – this could permanently damage the battery.

When Should You Consult a Professional?

If the error message occurs even at normal temperatures (15-25°C), the temperature sensor or battery may be defective. Professional diagnosis is then necessary. We offer battery checks and sensor repair for all models.

Preventive Measures

  • Place charging station in shade from the start – Prevents overheating in summer
  • In midsummer: Adjust mowing times – Mow early morning or late evening
  • In winter: Store mower in time – October/November, before first frost
  • Operation only between 5-45°C – Outside: Battery gets damaged
  • Consider canopy for charging station – Protects from sun and rain
  • Don't operate in enclosed spaces – Overheating risk
Pro Tip: If your charging station is in the sun and you can't relocate it, install a small sun canopy (available specifically for Automowers). This often lowers the temperature by 10-15°C and completely prevents the error message. But make sure the GPS signal isn't blocked!
