Husqvarna Automower Cannot Find Charging Station - Empty Battery Error

Very Common Easy to Fix Low Cost 5-30 Minutes
← Back to Overview
Problem: Your Automower shows "Empty Battery" and stops in the middle of the lawn, even though the charging station is working. The robotic mower cannot find its way back to the charging station before the battery is completely drained.

Problem Description

The Automower displays the error message "Empty Battery" and stops in the middle of the garden, even though the charging station is working properly. This problem occurs particularly frequently with models such as the 315, 420, and 430X. The robotic mower cannot find its way back to the charging station in time before the battery is completely discharged. The error message appears both on the display and in the Automower Connect App.

Affected Models: All Automower generations, especially common with 305, 310, 315, 320, 420, 430X

Possible Causes

  1. Guide wire defective or incorrectly installed (most common cause) – The guide wire is damaged, not connected, or not centrally positioned
  2. Incorrect search settings in the app – The mower doesn't optimally follow the guide wire
  3. Aging battery – The battery no longer holds charge and is too weak after 2-4 years of use
  4. Charging station not centrally positioned – The mower takes too long to reach the station
  5. Boundary wire settings incorrect – Wrong parameters lead to inefficient search patterns

Step-by-Step Solutions

Solution 1: Check Guide Wire

Time Required: 5-10 minutes

  1. Check that the guide wire is correctly connected to the charging station
  2. Visually follow the guide wire to check for damage from garden tools (spade, aerator)
  3. Ensure that the guide wire is laid centrally in the garden
  4. The guide wire should run straight for at least 2 meters in front of the charging station
  5. If cable break suspected: Check for continuity with a multimeter
Tools Needed: Multimeter (optional), Cable detector (optional)

Solution 2: Adjust Search Settings

Time Required: 3-5 minutes

  1. Open the Automower Connect App
  2. Go to Menu → Settings → Installation → Find Charging Station
  3. Set "Follow guide wire" to 0 minutes (highest priority)
  4. Set "Follow boundary wire" to 4-6 minutes
  5. Set charging station signal to "Max" (only set to "Low" if fence nearby)
Tip: This setting ensures that your Automower preferentially follows the guide wire and thus finds the fastest way to the charging station.

Solution 3: Check Battery Condition

Time Required: 2-3 minutes

  1. Check the mowing time in the app: Normal value is 70-240 minutes depending on model
  2. If the mower only runs for 30 minutes or less, the battery is weak
  3. Battery should be replaced every 2-4 years
  4. When replacing battery: Only use original Husqvarna batteries
Important: Cheap replacement batteries can damage the mower and void the warranty. Only use genuine spare parts.

When Should You Consult a Professional?

If the guide wire is damaged and the break point cannot be found, professional help with a cable detector is recommended. With frequently recurring problems despite correct settings, there may be a defect in the main circuit board or sensors.

We're happy to support you with professional diagnostics and offer original spare parts at fair prices.

Preventive Measures

  • Regularly check guide wire – Inspect the cable at least once per season for visible damage
  • Be careful when aerating – Mark cable routes to avoid damage
  • Store battery properly – Fully charge in winter and store frost-free
  • Optimize mowing times – Ensure the mower always has enough time to charge
  • Annual charging station maintenance – Check for secure fit and clean contacts
Pro Tip: Create a generous time window for charging in the app. For example, if your Automower should mow from 9am-5pm, set the schedule to 9am-7pm to give it enough buffer time.
